about

grigia scende la sera e si confonde
col rumore del forno a microonde
(Andrea Zanzotto)

Larix is a band consisting of Giacomo Ancillotto, composer and guitarist, well known within the nu-jazz milieu (Sudoku Killer and Luz), Franz Rosati, sound and visual artist, active in Italy and abroad, and Emanuele Tomasi on drums, well known in the jazz-core and avant-rock scene (Nohaybandatrio, Knup, Luca Aquino 4tet) as well as backbone of Larix. Formed in 2015 thanks to Antøniø Serra, producer and deus ex machina, Larix project quietly grew up in the underground scene of Rome and on November 15th it will make its first appearance with an eponymous album both on vinyl and digital format released by pseudomagica, a new born independent label based in Rome. Five movements out of four live session recorded hours, with the least possible editing in order to avoid overdubbing and to reduce post-production as much as possible keeping the recordings natural as well as true. The result is a bizarre and amorphous creature that develops around repetitive polyrhythmic patterns, abrasive synth and free noise improvisations. Drumming leads here: it prompts, drags guitars and synth, in a constant state of mutation until to blaze into a deafening bacchanal. Mutant and unrecognizable creatures, the guitars proceed aphasic and mutilated, they plot motes of micro sounds that creep to death alongside ambient-post-industrial cold abstractions orchestrated by Rosati. Combo’s noise concrete assault often becomes a reason for a techno-tribal happening, whose constantly evolving architecture is held together and mutilated by the hypertrophic pulse of the drum. Behind the mixing desk Rosati himself, assisted by Fabio “Reeks” Recchia from Hombre Lobo Studios in Rome. The album was mastered by James Plotkin.
